Overview and Rationale
When doing this studio shoot I intend to photograph a perfume bottle for my first still life/ product picture, the brand i’m going to look at is Hugo Boss. I would like to create an image that could be used to advertise and promote the perfume brand and company. To develop my skills in the area of advertising photography and using the different studio equipment. It will be necessary for me to look at lighting techniques used and how the composition is put together.
Evidence and Research
The images I have looked at are from various magazines, posters and the internet. When looking at the images in the magazines you can see that the images of the perfume and Hugo Boss perfumes on the advertisements have a soft lighting so there’s no harsh shadows, but the perfume bottle itself is lit very brightly so it stands out.
The photos which seem successful and seem to work well all focus on the bottle itself instead of the model or background, this allows you to see the bottle style and shape clearly.
In the less successful photos the image focuses more on the model which lessens the impact of the advertisement on the perfume. This could have an impact on the ability to sell. To improve these images you wouldn’t have to take away the model completely but you would have to focus more on the perfume or make the perfume stand out a lot more by lighting the product brighter.
Aims and Objectives
My target audience would be readers of fashion magazines possibly professional young women who appreciate well presented focused advertising.
This project will help me and teach me how to further enhance my skills and the understanding of how to use the studio equipment especially the different lighting. Doing this will help me be able to create the setup for my still life/ product photography. I am going to photograph a Hugo Boss perfume using a basic scene making sure the bottles the main focus.
On the day all I will need with me will be my perfume and props, this will help me create the right image for an advertisement in either a magazine or on a poster.
