Portrait Proposal

Overview and Rationale

When doing this shoot my intention will be to recreate a head and shoulder studio portrait to advertise hair gel. I will use this image for my portrait photo. I would like to create an image that demonstrates the product to its best potential, and to make people want to recreate this image on there hair themselves.
It will be necessary for me to look at what kind of lighting would be best to use on the model that will create the kind of look I will want to accomplish.

Evidence and Research

When I looked for examples of the kind of image I am interested in I looked at images out of hair magazines and also adverts in magazines and on posters for different kinds of hair gel. When looking at these images the ones that worked best really focused on the hair rather than the model. The black and white images seem to stand out a lot more and are a lot more striking than the coloured ones.
The lighting in the images have a lot of shadow on the model which gives a dramatic effect and works really well. The less successful images focused a lot more on the model than the hairstyle itself, and had no real focus on the thing it was meant to be showing and does not help promote what its meant to. To improve these images the main focus should stay on the hair instead of the model. The hair gel i’ll look at is Shockwaves by Wella, looking at there adverts on TV they always have there models having big spiky hair, so this is what I will try and re-create.

Aims and Objectives

My target audience is people who would use these types of products on there hair and wish to see what you can do with the product.
This project will help me to develop my skills of taking photos of people as i’ve never done this before, also to help me learn more about the studio equipment I will need to use to create the effect I want. I am going to use Shockwaves hair gel on my model and make it look like the models do in there adverts, but take the picture like how they also are in hair magazines.
On the day all I will need with me will be my model who will come with his hair already ready for the shoot.
