Last night I thought i'd have another go at doing light drawing, but instead of going out like I did before I decided to use torches and different lights in my house to create the effects. This time round I found it a lot easy because i'd done it before unlike last time. I ended up using on nearly all the pictures the same aperture and shutter speed because they just seemed the best to use for what I was doing. Again the pictures look better quality if you click on them.
For all this first section of images I used an aperture of f8.9 and shutter speed of 5.
For these first four images I decided to use a normal torch, which I think worked really well.
Next I attempted to have a go at drawing some things and writing, as you can see in these three images.
In these images I used the same torch again but then I also used a ball which is a light and it changes different colours. I think the ball gives a really nice effect even though it isn't sharp lines like the torch it really adds to the picture.
Next I tried using the ball on its own, it gave a strange but nice effect I think it works better together with another light like the torch, but still gives really nice colours and interesting shapes.
In these two pictures I used the same torch as before but decided I wanted to change the colour of it. I didn't have different coloured torches so decided to experiment and use the outside part of the wrapper off some quality street and put it over the front of the torch, and to my surprise it actually worked and think it works really well for such a simple idea.
Then I used a blue LED light compared to all the others I really like the bright glow the light gives off in the picture. In some of them I feel like it gives a kind of 3D effect because of how the lights been captured.
Next I tried seeing what would happen if I used a phone, I really like the effect this gives and how you can see the screen. Even though it blurs a bit I really like how it turned out in the picture.
For these pictures I used an aperture of f8.9 and shutter speed of 10.
Out of these pictures the apple one (third one down) is defiantly my favourite I love the shapes in it and how such a simple thing can create a nice abstract picture of an apple. For these I used the torch with coloured wrappers over.
f8.9
20
In this image I like all of the different colours and shapes within it from using the ball.
f8.9
30
In these last few pictures using the shutter speed of 30 it gave me a lot more chance to draw more things and attempt at drawing a picture (the last two).
I think doing these light drawing experiments has helped me a lot to understand shutter speeds and aperture more than I did, and I now feel a lot more confident using them.
